Annual Report on Work-Related Asthma
In 1988, the State of Michigan instituted a tracking program for work-related asthma with financial assistance from National Institute for Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH). This is a joint project of MI Occupational Safety & Health Administration (MIOSHA)/MI Department of Labor & Economic Growth (MDLEG) and Michigan State University. The reporting of an index patient is a sentinel health event that may lead to the identification of employees from the same facilities who are also at risk of developing asthma or who have developed similar breathing problems. The goal is to prevent work-related asthma through the identification of these index patients.
